How to Export Your Contacts from Gmail and Outlook
A comprehensive guide to safely export and backup your valuable contacts

Whether you're switching email providers, creating a backup, or just organizing your contacts, knowing how to export your contact list is an essential skill. This guide will walk you through the process for both Gmail and Outlook users, ensuring you never lose your important connections.
Gmail Contacts
If you use Gmail, follow these steps to export your contacts:
- Go to https://contacts.google.com/
- Click on the "Other Contacts" button on the left side bar
- Click the checkbox on the left side of one of the contacts to select it, click the blue down arrow on the top navigation bar and click All in order to select all of your contacts
- Click the three dots button on the right side of the screen and click on export
- Export selected contacts as a Google CSV file
Outlook Contacts
If you use Outlook, follow these steps to export your contacts:
- Head over to https://outlook.office.com/mail/ (you have to use the web version, this is not a feature on the app)
- Click the settings button on the top right side of page
- Go to General → Privacy and Data and click on "Download my expanded people data"
That's it! Now you have a file containing all your contact information that you can use for backup purposes or import into another service. Remember to keep your exported contact file in a safe place.
